It is with pleasure that I am raising money for Dreamfar High School Marathon, an organization that I have been a part of for 7 years (and counting). As a school psychologist, I believe strongly in the connection between exercise and mental health. Setting goals, learning to be flexible and changing them as needed (without judgment), working together with others, and forming meaningful connections with peers and adults also has a positive impact on one's mental health, in addition to being valuable life skills to implement in this "Marathon of Life."
In my time as a leader and mentor, students have shared with me that, through the process of training for either a marathon or half marathon, they have grown in confidence and belief in themselves. Further, they perceive that having trained for a distance race enabled them to feel more confident in other areas of their life.
Dreamfar is a nonprofit organization and relies on grants and fundraising to provide the program at no cost to our student athletes. These costs include race entry fees for the students, nutrition and hydration support during training, certified coaching, and even will provide needed gear for any student who cannot afford it.

I'm so excited to be running the Falmouth Road Race this summer on behalf of Dreamfar. For 12 years now I have been a mentor and leader at Newton South and am brought to tears every race when my students cross the finish line. This program truly is transformative and brings out the best in all students. It's challenging but the rewards last a lifetime, year after year students return as mentors to give back to a program that has changed their lives.
It's one thigh to train for a marathon by yourself but it is honestly the best to give the gift of crossing the finish to someone else. Students are never alone and are fully supported throughout the whole season. We share the strength, the struggle and determination together which helps aid in the success of every participant young and old.
I love that Dreamfar is about community and inclusion. All student athletes get a chance to shine together regardless of running experience or learning style. I personally never would have run a marathon if it weren't for Dreamfar. The best thing I can do is give back to a program that has not only helped my students but has also helped me.

As a junior in high school and a two year Dreamfar participant, I am so grateful that I get to help this program that has given me so much. Dreamfar is truly one of a kind. It provides high school students with experiences and opportunities that extend far beyond running. It gives a space for students to form new friendships with peers, as well as meaningful relationships with adult runners. It helps students to build confidence in themselves and discover how much they are capable of. Before Dreamfar, I never imagined I would be able to push myself this far—26.2 miles far! I am so appreciative of Dreamfar, and am thrilled to be able to give back to such an incredible program and help Dreamfar to continue to provide this life-changing experience to so many other students like myself. Dreamfar is free for those students who participate. Your support means that Dreamfar can continue to offer programming to students who want to challenge themselves, find community, and accomplish an amazing goal!

Woods Hole, the village the Falmouth Road Race begins, is the start of so many of my personal journeys in my life from work to hobbies. Running the route from Woods Hole, past Nobska Light and down to Falmouth Heights this year is about more than just running. It is here where my late Nana made me her famous brownies to share with my co-interns "so I would make friends" during my summer at MBL in Woods Hole and where my late Papa would excitedly show us around, taking us to the world famous MBL lab's touch tank. It is where I first did novel, presentable scientific research and where I first biked over 10 miles- starting my journey in endurance sports.
It is also where I began my recovery from bilateral (both legs) tibial (shin bone) stress fractures. The summer I interned there, 2012, I was happy to fully run 1 mile. And, it is where I began even more determined to be a runner.
This August, I have the honor of running this famed race while raising money for an organization near and dear to my heart called Dreamfar High School Marathon Team. After learning about this group from a former student, I joined to train for my first marathon alongside a group of AMAZING high school students in November of 2022. Through two marathons and hundreds of hours of running with these athletes I have seen first hand just how important the opportunity to join Dreamfar is for the student athletes. We are a team of students, leaders and mentors who run together for fun, to build community, to build confidence and gain strength. It is a place for those who already see themselves as runners, and those who eventually will see themselves as such to bond, explore and have fun.
So, I fundraise to help as many students as possible access our program. Students are FULLY FUNDED by the fundraising we do, gain technical training, mentoring, and friendship. They run up to three official races, learn proper nutrition from experts, hear from Boston Marathon winners, and are coached on how to keep themselves safe and healthy during the season. Your donation allows us to do all of this, and for that we say thank you:)
